WEEKLY UPDATE - JAN 30

Welcome back to the Weekly Wrap Up! It was a fairly quiet week at City Hall. #yegcc

We had our first Public Hearing of 2023 and the first on our new schedule - Mondays 9:30am to 5pm. There weren't any rezonings in O-day'min but we did approve a number of exciting missing middle projects around #yeg that I look forward to seeing come to life!

We also had an important conversation related to the proposed overdose prevention facility in Ritchie. We heard requests to exclude this type of healthcare from a specific commercial area as part of an unrelated zoning amendment that was in front of us. Council chose not to take this direction. While I believe it will be essential for the service providers to build close relationships with their neighbours, I'm glad that Council affirmed the importance of overdose prevention facilities as part of the health and safety of all Edmontonians.

Council heard the first update from City staff on our comprehensive review of services, which will see $60m in cost savings and the reprioritization of $240m. This will be a challenging but important part of making the most out of every tax dollar - more updates to come!

Speaking of taxes, you should have received your assessment for 2023. If you have questions, don't hesitate to call 311 to talk to an assessor. This is free and doesn't require any paperwork. The sooner the better - the deadline for formal appeals is March 24th!

Don't forget that the parking ban remains in effect as snowplows continue working to clear residential roads. Be sure to sign up for notifications of when crews will be in your neighbourhood so you can be sure to have your car off the street and avoid a $250 fine!
