WEEKLY UPDATES - FEB 6
Welcome another weekly roundup!
Utility Committee saw changes to our Sanitary Servicing Strategy. Reviewing sewer infrastructure might sound very dry (🥁) but it has big impacts on carbon emissions and housing affordability. I'm delighted that the changes will result in significantly less infrastructure being required. The updates are a testament to how a whole system approach to City services can help generate big savings as we build a city that works for everyone.
Council was busy with a number of motions. I was pleased to get my colleagues' support to save a building in Spruce Avenue. Rather than demolish it for park space that isn't currently needed, I was excited to keep it open for future use by community and arts groups.
I also made a motion requesting City staff to develop options for how we use education tax room in our spring budget adjustment. This approach can help meet strategic needs and emerging issues without increasing the out-of-pocket property tax costs to Edmontonians.
A final motion I was pleased to pass was a request for an annual report from the Chinatown Transformation Collaborative. This will be a great opportunity to check in on our progress on the Chinatown Strategy and ensure we keep this important work moving forward.
That’s all for now, looking forward to another exciting week ahead!
