Weekly Update - Oct 3

There was also a lot of Edmonton City Council business happening last week to keep everyone up to date with.

We heard from End Poverty Edmonton. I’m glad they can continue their essential (and achievable!) work to end poverty in our community. They play a key role in supporting groups around the City, bringing them together and helping them to scale up and fill gaps in services.

The Edmonton Community Development Corporation also presented its strategic plan. I was very happy to see their renewed focus on development in central neighbourhoods and continued commitment to building great communities.

The Bike Implementation Plan came to Urban Planning Committee and received strong support from my colleagues there - and me too! Expanding our #yegbike network to serve more Edmontonians will be a small part of our capital budget, but a big part of making the city more livable.

Executive Committee also heard a report from the Clean Energy Improvement Program. I was really impressed with their positive reception and work so far. Building a better city helps us meet our climate goals, and saves Edmontonians money in their own homes.

I was also pleased to have made a successful motion to provide property tax relief for affordable housing providers who were caught in a change in provincial legislation. I’m glad we can support these extraordinary organizations who do so much to support our communities.
