WEEKLY UPDATE - OCT 28
Welcome back to the Weekly Wrap Up!
At Public Hearing, we approved a rezoning on 124 Street. This project will be the first high rise on 124 Street north of 102 Ave, and offers a great transit-oriented development in line with our City Plan vision. It was great to hear support from community members for more density, while recognizing that empty lots detract from our communities. I'm excited for the Priority Growth Areas initiative to help ensure that projects can get built successfully - learn more here!
At City Council, we had an update on Dutch Elm Disease. While a fifth infected tree was detected near the original outbreak, I’m grateful for the swift action being taken by City staff to limit the spread and maintain the health of our urban canopy. As winter approaches, the beetles that spread the disease will go dormant and City crews will be pruning elm trees to reduce their risk of infection. We all play an important role in preventing and responding to Dutch Elm Disease - find out how you can help.
I also made a notice of motion for the City to review the recently proposed Downtown Investment Plan. My motion asks for more information about the $383M the City has committed to the core, and how we can leverage existing programs to support further investment in downtown. I'm looking forward to continuing to collaborate with Downtown stakeholders as we work to strengthen the vibrancy and resiliency of the heart of our city.
That’s all for last week, see you again in November, and have a happy Halloween!
