WEEKLY UPDATE - MAY 21

Welcome back to the Weekly Wrap Up! Last week included a number of important conversations for our community.

At Public Hearing, we saw several rezonings in O-day’min. One supported the great work being done by the Edmonton Food Bank by cleaning up a patchwork of zoning at their site. Two rezonings in Westmount and Central McDougall will support more housing options in O-day’min!

At City Council, we talked about the EPS Annual Report. It was a great opportunity for Council to share the priorities we hear from Edmontonians and learn more about the work EPS has underway. I was pleased to support a motion asking for more frequent public conversations between Council and the Police Commission moving forward. I think this will be a great way to raise awareness and transparency of both the Commission and EPS’s work.

This theme continued at Police Commission on Thursday, which touched on recent events at the UofA. The Commission made a request to the police service to clarify policies around officer identification, and how police manage protests and the use of force at these events. I’m looking forward to the answers we receive to these important questions and the discussion they create. These conversations are vital to ensuring that policing is meeting the expectations of Edmontonians and aligning with EPS’s strategic plan.

Thanks for tuning in, and see you next week!
