WEEKLY UPDATE - APR 24

Welcome back to the weekly wrap up! Last week was an uplifting one at #yegcc with some great discussions and exciting news from the City and federal governments.

The Supplemental Operating Budget Adjustment was released Monday, finalising tax changes 2023. The good news is the City is on budget, and the tax increase will be less than what we had projected, at 4.26% for residential and 3.13% for non-residential properties.

Council also had a fulsome discussion with the Edmonton Police Commission about information sharing and accountability. New initiatives will include regular touch points between EPC and City Council, and more ways for Edmontonians to get involved in the Commission.

We heard annual reports from our external boards and agencies, and conducted interviews with Edmontonians looking to step up to serve on these committees. I am deeply impressed by the many passionate, community-minded Edmontonians bringing their talents to Edmonton’s advisory boards.

On Friday the Federal government announced funding for Imagine Jasper Ave and active transportation, and $66.7 million to repair 1,955 units of affordable housing! Huge thanks to our partners at the Federal government for these investments in much needed infrastructure in Edmonton.

Hopefully the good news will keep coming this week - Go Oilers Go!
