WEEKLY UPDATES - MAR 7

Happy Monday and welcome back to the Weekly Wrap Up!

Last week's Executive Committee was an exciting one for investing in the housing solutions that we know work in our community. Pending Council approval next week, two parcels of City-owned land in O-day'min will be offered at below market price for affordable housing. I look forward to seeing the great projects that emerge!

We're also moving forward with 3 City-led and 5 partner-led projects for the federal government's third round of the Rapid Housing Initiative. If all the projects are successful, this will mean 351 new units of critically needed permanent supportive housing in Edmonton. I'm so encouraged by this great work from city staff and community partners. Affordable and supportive housing that meets the needs of Edmontonians is foundational to addressing homelessness and making Edmonton a safer and healthier city for everyone.

At Community and Public Services Committee, we discussed the results of the second season of the alcohol consumption in parks pilot. Detailed and inclusive surveying showed no major issues were created and that a cross-section of Edmontonians support it continuing. I look forward to supporting this program becoming permanent when it comes to Council next week. The approach strikes a balance by providing options for those without backyards who many want to enjoy a drink outdoors, while also maintaining alcohol free park space.

Last week was the first week in our new Committee assignments. I'll be serving on Urban Planning Committee and was honoured to be selected as Chair by my colleagues. I appreciate their support as I step into this new role and look forward to the robust conversations to come!

That's all for now, have a great week!
