WEEKLY UPDATE - MAY 8

Welcome back to the Weekly Wrap up! Last week was Committee week at City Hall and there were a number of items that were particularly relevant for O-day’min.

E-scooters were on the agenda at Urban Planning Committee. I’m excited for the new licensing agreements that will encourage more responsible parking, less concentration in the core, and fewer delays at the start of the season. E-scooters will be on the streets by the end of May!

At Executive Committee, we talked about making Rice Howard Way an Entertainment District. This initiative will support Downtown Vibrancy and the wonderful businesses in the area. I’m looking forward to it going to Council for approval and some great programming this summer!

Executive Committee also approved a new lease with the Citadel Theatre. The 50 year lease was expiring this year, when the building would return to the City. The new agreement allows the Citadel to focus on their theatre programs while the City takes over maintenance. The Citadel will contribute to a reserve fund and will also be able to apply for grants that the City isn't eligible for. It's a good balance that helps protect the City's financial interests while making sure the Citadel can continue being a cornerstone in Edmonton’s Arts District.

All these discussions were a great reminder of all the great ways and reasons to #meetmedowntown - hope to see you here!
