WEEKLY UPDATE - MAR 28
Welcome back to the weekly wrap up. Last week saw a number of exciting reports at Committee.
At Community and Public Services Committee, I was delighted to see the work by City staff on a Derelict Property Tax. Derelict properties pose so many challenges and this is a great way we hold landowners accountable and doing their part to keep our communities safe and vibrant.
We also heard about some great new tools that we could use to allow us to address problematic landlords in Edmonton and provide renters with more information about who they are renting from. I'm excited to see these initiatives moving forward to help create safer homes for all.
We also received an encouraging report about the Community Outreach Transit Teams and the positive impact the initial pilot had on transit safety. I look forward to reviewing the detailed cost/benefit analysis underway and seeing this program continue to expand.
At Urban Planning, the Edmonton Transit Services Advisory Boards spoke about youth safety on transit. I'm grateful to ETSAB for their advocacy on this important issue and was pleased to hear their strong support for the comprehensive approach to youth safety that ETS is taking.
