WEEKLY UPDATE - MAR 11
Welcome back to the Weekly Wrap Up! Last week was committee week at City Hall and I wanted to share my top three highlights.
Utility Committee received the report from EPCOR on the EL Smith Water Treatment Plant shutdown. It was a good opportunity to learn more about how EPCOR addressed the situation and also highlighted lessons learned to further strengthen future responses. I’m grateful for the swift action that EPCOR took to restore our water supply, and for all Edmontonians who supported the water reduction measures. I’m also glad to know that more planning work is underway to ensure our water systems are resilient in a range of future scenarios.
Utility Committee also reviewed a contract for Waste Management Services. While normally not the most thrilling topic, this report highlighted the exceptional partnership between the City and Quality 1, a local social enterprise. In addition to stellar waste sorting services, Quality 1 also changes lives by providing job opportunities to Edmontonians who face barriers to employment. I encourage you to watch this incredible documentary about Quality 1’s work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICw9ud2p-qw
Our other committee meetings were focused on reviewing applicants who have applied for Edmonton’s advisory committees. As always, I was impressed with the depth of skill, experience, and willingness to step up from every day Edmontonians!
That’s all folks! Looking forward to an exciting week ahead.
