WEEKLY UPDATE - APR 11
Welcome back to the weekly wrap up.
Here are the Coles notes from Edmonton City Council last week.
At Public Hearing, O-day’min saw a rezoning of a currently vacant lot in Queen Mary Park immediately north of McEwan for high density residential and a new public park. There is a lot of growth potential around McEwanU and I am excited to see this site reinvigorated!
At City Council, we approved a number of borrowing bylaws - this sounds dull but it means we can get rolling on some very exciting investments!
The first is moving forward with replacing the LRT cars. After 40 years of service, it is time for them to be retired and I’m excited to see new cars join the fleet.
We are also moving ahead with land purchasing to support the expansion of the Metro Line from Blatchford to Campbell Rd. This LRT line has been a part of the vision for Edmonton’s North-West for a long time and it’s great to be taking the next step forward.
We’re also moving forward with deep energy retrofits for City of Edmonton buildings, bringing us towards carbon neutral operations, and investing in the Blatchford Renewable Energy Center #4 to support the award-winning development of Edmonton’s first net zero neighbourhood!
My colleague Andrew Knack brought an exciting motion to promote residential development downtown. Getting more people living in the heart of our city is critical for long term vibrancy and it was wonderful to hear the passion and commitment of all of City Council to see this happen.
I hope you had a lovely long weekend, see you again next week!
