Weekly Update - June 27, 2022
Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weekend we just had.
Last week, Council was focused on setting the stage for our fall budget deliberations. We heard the tension between the transformative change many of us on Council want to see and the constrained fiscal reality we’re facing. I think the great opportunity lies in re-aligning existing resources with our key priorities and I look forward to robust conversations ahead.
We also had a chance to say a warm farewell to the indomitable Linda Hut who has brilliantly led City Hall School for so many years. You will be so missed and yet always here - you are leaving a phenomenal legacy to our city.
Public Hearing saw two new rezonings in McCauley to support the great work of the Edmonton Community Development Corporation - I’m excited to see these additions to our community!
I had a week of great events!
I was excited to take part in ribbon cuttings both big and small at Blatchford this week. One to officially celebrate what will be one of the world’s most environmentally sustainable neighbourhoods and one to welcome the community’s first Free Little Library. I am always blown away to see this beautiful neighbourhood coming together and the incredible sense of community that residents have already built.
Just across Kingsway Avenue, Prince Rupert opened their brand new park this Saturday. I am so impressed with how it turned out and it was amazing to see how many families came out for the event - clearly a great example of how building quality public spaces helps bring us all together. Huge shout out to all the volunteers that made this happen. I can’t wait to come back with my little one to try out the new equipment!
I also had the chance to celebrate three very special graduations - one for the inspirational grads from Boyle Street Education Centre, and recruits and cadets for Edmonton Fire and Rescue Services. Congratulations to all the grads and I look forward to seeing the unique contributions you each bring to our community.
Thanks to everyone who joined the community conversation on Thursday, I’m looking forward to the next in August!
